World of color

One of the most prominent features of the skin is its color. It is important to choose products that are appropriate for our unique skin tone and type. By learning about the diversity of skin color, we can better understand how to care for our skin.

Of course, you often hear talk about skin tones and skin colors, and it is not surprising that the difference between skin tone and skin color can be confusing to many people. Or is there no difference, and you can use both terms whenever you want?
Skin tone versus skin color
One of the most striking characteristics of skin is its color, which ranges from very light to very dark, from porcelain white to ebony black. Although the terms skin color and skin tone are often used interchangeably, they do have different meanings. For example, skin color refers to the visible color of the skin on the surface and is a general characteristic of a person's skin. That color, by the way, can change due to factors such as sun exposure or skin conditions. For example, people with darker skin may be more prone to hyperpigmentation, while those with lighter skin may be more prone to sunburn.

Skin tone, on the other hand, refers to the undertone of the skin and will remain constant regardless of changes in skin color. That undertone can be warm, cool or neutral. As a result, some people have redder skin and others have blue undertones. Knowing your skin tone is important if you want a perfect shade match or when making clothing choices. After all, that knowledge can help you find the colors that best suit your skin.
Melanin
All that variation in color is the result of the amount of melanin in the skin, a pigment produced by our skin.
Melanin plays a crucial role in how our skin, hair and eyes look and function. It protects us from the sun's harmful rays and absorbs heat. In turn, the amount of melanin in our skin is determined by our genes. Several genes, including the MC1R gene, influence the production of melanin.
Our skin in all its wonderful variations
Skin diversity is a wonderful symbol of the genetic diversity that makes us unique. The broad spectrum of skin color, with all degrees of warm, cool and neutral undertones, and the distinction between skin tone and skin color goes beyond aesthetic choices for selecting makeup or clothing. When we recognize and appreciate this diversity, we respect the beauty of every skin color.
